Why does my toilet keep running between flushes?
Almost always a worn flapper, a fill valve that no longer shuts off, or a float set too high. It is an inexpensive repair, but a running toilet can waste hundreds of gallons a day, so it is worth fixing promptly.
There is water around the base. Is that serious?
It can be. It usually means the wax seal has failed, the closet flange is damaged, or the fixture itself is cracked. Water at the base soaks into the subfloor and can reach the ceiling below, so it should be looked at rather than mopped up and ignored.
Should I repair or replace my toilet?
